Ararat Center Board Pays Tribute to Karen Durgarian

“You must remember always to give ……... You must give foolishly even. You must be extravagant. You must give to all who come into your life. …….And the more you give, the more you will have to give.--William Saroyan

The Ararat Youth and Conference Center is richer today because Karen Durgarian lived by William Saroyan’s words. Since 2004 when the search for a St. Vartan camp home had been realized, Karen worked tirelessly to ensure that the Ararat Center would thrive.

Whether she donned her Board of Directors, Project Coordinator, or Worker Bee hat, she left no stone unturned in an effort to renovate and update the nine facility buildings and sixty-five acre grounds. During her reign as project coordinator, volunteer work weekends were coordinated and held before and after the start of each season (the Ararat Center season extends from May through October). The list of tasks she chose to take on was all encompassing and speaks to Karen’s work ethic and commitment to her Armenian heritage. It was her heartfelt desire that our Diocesan Ararat Center be a comfortable and safe place—a home away from home-- for our youth to learn about their religion, culture and rich heritage.

From the bottom of our hearts, we thank Karen for all that she accomplished during her tenure!
